Why We Should Use Metaphors

I love using metaphors.

If there was a superhero I could create

It would be “Metaphor Man.”

He’d have a cape with a giant M on it.

Metaphors work because they take an unfamiliar concept

And compare it to something you’re already familiar with.

Communication can be improved,

As well as generating new ideas.

Explaining multiplication to a child can be daunting.

Explaining how multiplying is just like addition,

And that we add more…

May make the task simpler to comprehend.

If I were to explain how

Marriage is like (Insert abstract concept)

Versus

Marriage is like you and me.

Which one is easier to understand?

Metaphors are illuminating.

They help us see things in a different way

And understand the world around us.

In other words,

They don’t have to be used for literary purposes

They can be psychological.
