The Optimist & The Pessimist

There’s a story of 2 brothers.

One was an enthusiastic optimist,

bubbling over-the-rim with positivity.

The other, was a sad pessimist who always felt helpless and hopeless.

The parents of the boys took them a local psychologist to get some insight.

The psychologist recommended to “balance” the brothers’ personalities.

She suggested on their next birthday, to put them in separate rooms to open their gifts.

“Give the pessimist the best toys you can afford.”

“Then, give the optimist lots of horse manure.”

The parents listened.

Upon opening, the pessimist complained as loud as he could about how he hated the color

of some gifts and compared them to better ones.

Then, they glanced over at the optimist.

They saw him digging through the manure happily as he exclaimed:

“With all this manure…

There must be a pony in here somewhere!”
